Here we go, finally after all the planning, we’re off to Bienos Aires and Uruguay.
Our drive up to Heathrow T5 Log Stay carpark was uneventful, I guess just missing the usual rush hour traffic due to our late departure time.
Our flight, BA245, pretty much the last flight out of Heathrow Terminal 5, pushed back on time at 22:30 and we were soon taking off and we were settling back in to our seats for the fourteen hour, non-stop flight to Buenos Aires Pistarini Airport.

Flying through our night we landed in Buenos Aires at their breakfast time and once we’d cleared immigration, picked up our baggage and found our ride to the hotel, we arrived too early to check in to our hotel, but also feeling a little peckish. Leaving our cases at the hotel we headed out to explore, finding a restaurant to grab a little breakfast, finding Cafe Valerio a traditional looking cafe that offered a cheap set menu breakfast.

Breakfast finished we had a little time to kill before either our energy ran out or we could check in to our hotel. Heading down the road we soon found the Obelisco, a white marble obelisk standing 67m high and the most famous landmark in Buenos Aires. Dodging the crazy traffic we made it to the middle of the roundabout and took some pictures in the bright morning sunshine. Expecting jet lag to catch us at any moment, we strolled along the Avenida 9 de Julio getting our bearings in this chaotic city.

Finally, it was time to check in and clean up. We sauntered back to our hotel – Tanguero Boutique Hotel – to sit quietly in the lobby completing our paperwork. We were assigned our room and assured that it was the best room in the hotel – we were sceptical! The room overlooked the street below and was huge, adorned with tango memorabilia and named after La Cumparsita – a tango classic that would become the thread throughout this holiday.
