Up very early for a Sunday, my iPhone bursting in to life at 05:25 giving us just enough time, albeit bleary-eyed, for a quick cuddle, a shower and nipping out of the Thistle Hotel at 06:00. Check-in for our flight opening at 06:25, and despite a little bit of a queue at T5 Pod Parking Terminal B, our little T5 Pod whisked us in to the terminal in 5 minutes and very soon we were all checked in, our cases vanishing in to the dark recesses of T5.
Clearing security and picking up our Zloty currency from Travelex we soon made it through the bustle of T5 and in to the oasis of calm of the T5 south lounge for a spot of breakfast. Fresh Union Roasted coffee, hash browns, frittata, muesli with yoghurt and honey all wrapped up with toast and marmalade. Our flight boarded on time, and with boarding swiftly completed we were soon on our way through the morning Heathrow air-traffic heading for a westerly takeoff. Two hours later we were bumpily touching down in Chopin Airport Warsaw. Bags quickly retrieved we soon found the ticket office in the arrivals Hall picking up two tickets, ZL4.40 each, for bus route 175 that dropped us almost at the door of our Warsaw break base, Bez Kantów Boutique Rooms.
Checked in smoothly and very efficiently by Margaret who showed us how to get in and out of the building before guiding us to our room. With our suitcases dropped off we were soon back out on the streets of Warsaw heading to the Warsaw Rising Museum to take advantage of their free Sunday entry. This place is one of those startling, must-see museums that charts the uprising against the Nazi invasion of their city.
Our route to the museum also took us past one of the only chunks of wall remaining of the Warsaw Ghetto, a stark reminder of hideous times gone by.
The Bez Kantow is a delightful boutique hotel and feels more like staying in a friends house rather than a hotel.
