In recent years, to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we have taken it in turns to find a unique or quirky place to stay for a weekend away. This year it was my turn. Searching high and low I’d found nothing that even remotely tickled my fancy, when an email newsletter popped in to my in-box from a letting agency we’d used when staying in Huddersfield visiting the girls. Pride of place in the email was this…

A haven of peace and tranquillity.
From the pictures it looked perfect. Quiet. Secluded. All mod-cons, it even has an espresso machine. All of this coupled with an unparalleled view across the Solent. I booked it in a flash !!!
Picking up Mrs Y after school we headed for the Isle of Wight ferry and whizzed over to the island and made the short drive around to Gurnard in no time at all. During the crossing we were treated to a close-up of the Waverley paddle steamer paying it’s yearly visit to the South Coast.
The owner of the Beach Hut has a cafe too, The Watersedge Beach Cafe, which offers great food, great service and a great view too (make sure you book a table for Sunday dinner though). The owner, Andrew, is a perfect host and nothing is too much trouble him or his amazing team, whether you are renting his Beach Hut or simply enjoying a coffee and a slice of cake. On picking up the Beach Hut key I left with enough goodies for breakfast, a loaf, butter, jams and marmalades which only added to the already well stocked fridge in the Beach Hut.
Andrew’s directions from the cafe, hastily sketched on a napkin, led us easily to the Beach Hut and on opening the front door we knew instantly it was the perfect place to spend our anniversary weekend.

Across the Solent
With a fully fitted kitchen, and a comfy sofa, we had everything we could possibly need for a weekend away.
The Beach Hut is situated off Marsh Road, a quiet thoroughfare which attracts very little passing traffic, yet offers you easy access to the rest of the Island. At low tide it is possible to walk along the foreshore right to the door of the Watersedge Cafe for a well deserved treat !!!
Our weekend was spent mostly sat on the sofa with the bi-fold doors wide open watching the world drift past the hut. Everything past us by from local fishing boats, to yachts, to the latest cruise liners, all of which kept us entertained. Although the Beach Hut had a perfectly good television, we never turned it on once, preferring instead to enjoy the world outside our door.
Happy travels !!
Steve & Karen
PS: I enjoyed our weekend stay at the Beach Hut so much, that for a 5-day business trip a week later, I cancelled my booking at the nearby Best Western in Cowes and stayed here instead. It gave far me more flexibility to come and go as I pleased and also allowed me to cook and eat what I wanted, when I wanted it. Needless to say, my second stay at the Beach Hut was just as amazing as the first.
