More Exotic Business Travel

After an extended dry spell on the business travel, it looks like things are starting to pick up, with emails appearing requesting assistance from the Apps Team. Far flung destinations have been bandied around like, Burma, Haifa, Australia, Oman, all of which sound exotic and exiting.

So, to get the ball rolling on this new wave of travel, this morning I've been filling in my travel request form, looking at suitable hotels, getting approval form the boss etc, etc.

No, it's not to any of the aforementioned exotic destinations.
No, it doesn't involve long haul flights, there's no visas, no jabs to protect against deadly viruses. Nothing.

I'm off to Stevenage and two nights in the Holiday Inn Express just 100 miles up the road.

I guess from little acorns big oak trees grow eh?

Lounging around

After six years in my current job and having travelled to some weird and mostly wonderful places, I’ve finally accrued enough airmiles to be able to enjoy a business class flight.
Enjoying the peace and tranquility of the British Airways lounge at Heathrow T5 is simply wonderful. I could easily get used to this level of travel.
The UK weather has been horrendous overnight and our flight is a little delayed which gives us just a little more time to enjoy the delights of the lounge. GB.

Traveling again…

It’s been a while, but finally plans are starting to come together for a couple of trips.

One trip is purely for pleasure and Mrs Y and I will be heading off to Germany to visit Berlin during the upcoming school half term holiday.

The second trip is purely business and will see me heading off to Oman for two weeks delivering training.

More details to follow !!!!

On the road again!

Here I go again on another trip with my job. Nothing fancy or exotic this time. No long haul flight or hours of waiting for checking in or boarding. Today sees me aboard a car ferry headed towards the Isle of Wight.
The island is practically a stones throw from my home and in 40 minutes I will be ‘over seas’ technically.
It’s a dull grey morning this morning so the view is not impressive. The sea looks flat but the ferry is rolling quite a bit. Oh the glamour of being a travelling engineer eh?

Braves vs Phillies vs RAIN

During our annual vacation we ALWAYS catch at least one Braves game and this year was no exception, but due to their schedule we could only catch one game, against the Phillies. A traffic delayed journey down from Helen we arrived in the Blue parking lot just minutes ahead of the thunder storm, we purchased our $1 skyline seats and took cover in the stadium watching the downpour and the lightening force the groundsmen to cover the diamond.
Food, drink and ample shopping kept us entertained until the game started at 9:00PM. The Braves tried their best in a very damp Turner Field but the Phillies pitcher had other plans and we went down 5-1.
As a family we all love the fact that people are there for the love of the game and the enjoyment of the spectacle that is baseball. Coming from a UK soccer background where terrace fighting was the norm, it is a joy to be able to just enjoy the game. See you again next year guys!

Nacoochee Grill and Tavern

A great evening out at the Nacoochee Grill and Tavern in Helen GA. The pizza and calzone were amazing as was the pitcher of dark beer. I think a return visit will be in order before we leave.

Japan here we come !!!

After much dithering, we have finally firmed up some dates in April 2014 and with the help of 96,000 BA miles, collected over many years of travel, we’ve just booked our flights to Tokyo, JAPAN !!!!

One place I never ever thought I would see is now in our sights. WOW !!!

On our agenda so far… a few days in Tokyo, Kyoto, Horoshima, Mt Fuji and Hakone.

Hopefully we will catch some Japanese baseball, fulfil a childhood dream of riding a bullet train, stay in a Ryokan and get to see some Sumo.

An awfully big adventure !!!
