Phnom Penh… the end of the adventure.

Our last day in Cambodia started with breakfast, followed by a five and a half hour journey back to Phnom Penh for one final night at the Pavilion.

Our journey down from Battambang was an uneventful one, down one of the few main roads in the country, route 5. Lots of roadworks, lots of dual-carriage ways that weren’t fully opened or yet to be completed with the the traffic frequently switching lanes every few miles in to yet another contra flow.

Arriving back at the Pavilion, pushing open the big door in the wall, felt like we were arriving back home again and checking back in to exactly the same room that we had at the start of our adventure was a delight.

But we had one more visit to squeeze in, a return visit to Daughters of Cambodia for one last manicure and change of nail polish before we headed back home. While Mrs Y was being pampered I walked up the road for one last walk around the Russian market, but this time I didn’t find any bargains!

Nails polished we returned by TukTuk to the Pavilion, spending the rest of the afternoon by the pool But our planned final evening river walk was scuppered by a late afternoon heavy rain storm and rumbling thunder, so we took an undercover table by the pool taking time to sit and enjoy one last meal washed down with a few cold beers.

And that was it, our Cambodian adventure was finally over and what an adventure it turned out to be!
