Our last breakfast in Muntri Grove was just as delightful as the others. Sat by the pool, the morning noticeably cooler no doubt due to the huge thunderstorm and torrential rain of the previous evening, the morning sky azure blue, cloudless, scattered with darting Swifts that kept us entertained while scrambled eggs and toast was rustled up by the cook.

Peaceful Muntri breakfast.
Sadly this idyllic start was brought back to down earth with a bump when the receptionist informed us that our car rental company wanted to talk to us, after a swift call and a twenty-minute wait, a little guy arrived on a scooter and promptly charged us for the damage that was inflicted to our rental car. It could have been a lot worse but the final repair cost ended up being a lot less than the insurance excess meaning we were liable for it, but somehow it still feels like we’re being ripped-off.
With bags packed, aircon cranked up high and with very heavy hearts we waved goodbye to the Muntri Grove setting Mr Garmin for Kuala Lumpur and the next stop on our adventure, 5 Twenty @ Ampang Hilir, a residential guest house with a pool.
Leaving our island retreat of Penang across the 13.5KM Penang Bridge, our route would be taking us through some rather stunning scenery, from mile after mile of palm plantations, or passing through high forested hills with soaring cliffs or craggy mountain outcrops with roads leading off to the tea plantation resorts, it was all quite surprising and made for an enjoyable drive.
Our journey, mostly dual carriage way was easy enough with little to trouble us other than some minor road works. Motorway services were surprisingly good too with some interesting and varied food available, most of which was cooked fresh in front of you and both of us ate and drank well for less than £2.00.
Mr Garmin took us right to the door, although not that it was clearly signed, with only one minor hiccup, somehow a new raised concrete strip in the road foiled Mr Garmins advice to “take the next left”, but on taking the next available turning left he got us right to our destination. Catching glimpses of the Twin Towers as we drove through busy KL was pretty exciting too, with the impressive towers catching the sun on its shiny exterior and we were surprised by just how close our accommodation was to them. Once checked in by the lovely Esther, who also gave us a guided tour of our accommodation, we unpacked our cases.
Quickly getting our bearings with Google Maps, we then headed out, on foot, in to the evening looking for some dinner, ending up in the KLCC Suria shopping mall food court where we dined superbly at Simple Life where everything is vegetarian or vegan, ending up with a window seat where we looked out across the adjacent park and its illuminated fountains watching the sun slow set over Kuala Lumpur.
