King’s Town Hotel – Kaohsiung

One of my first work trips was out to Taiwan, Kaohsiung to be precise, somewhere that wasn’t on my To-Do list of holiday destinations. I stayed at the King’s Town Hotel which had been chosen by our agent, a local guy that picked the hotel for its convenience to our customer, which as it turned out wasn’t that convenient especially at rush-hour.

Check-in was simple despite a lack of English and my room, facing Kaohsiung station, was pretty comfortable. All the usual hotel room amenities, desk and chair, well fitted bathroom, good aircon, tea/coffee-making facilities and the bed was comfortable too.

Breakfast was a huge buffet catering for most tastes. My host was always late down for breakfast and always ate just about everything on offer, which meant we left late and hit more rush-hour traffic.

The staff were friendly and helpful despite the broken English.

PROS: Good location for most of Kaohsiung. Handy for the station and metro. Good local shopping.

CONS: When I stayed a lack of English was a mild problem. City center location, so not overly quiet. A little dated by european standards.
