Yet again it was location that led us to this hotel; in a different area of Tokyo and close to attractions we hadn’t managed to visit at the start of the holiday. We wanted to visit Miraikon and Tsukiji Fish Market and both were within easy reach. The hotel is easily reachable from Takeshiba and Hinode stations, but it is clearly used by the huge cruise ships that dock at the nearby port. Reception is rather ostentatious with doorman confused by people arriving on foot rather than in taxis or coaches! Despite having IHG priority check-in it was made perfectly clear that they would only do so as long as nobody more important arrived. It was the only time we felt Japanese manners were not in evidence. Check-in was slow and unfriendly with the lobby area full of confused cruise passengers, in limbo, either starting or finishing their cruises. This was to be a base for the final two days of our holiday and for the first time we blew the budget on a room with bay views but this did not allow us the luxury of inclusive breakfast.
The room was truly astonishing with views across Tokyo Bay and Rainbow Bridge. The room was huge with every luxury, including a large chaise longue positioned in front of the panoramic windows. The bed was big enough to accommodate our entire family and the bathroom had every luxury imaginable. The view alone was worth the extravagance and we were glad that we had requested a bay view.
PROS: Amazing, panoramic windows with unhindered views across Tokyo Bay. Spotlessly clean. Massive bed. Perfect position for exploring city. Close to public transport.
CONS: Very un-Japanese manners. Too many cruiser passengers. Chaotic and unfriendly check-in. Food very expensive. Clearly judge guests on their appearance.
