Dunsan Graytone Daejeon

Arriving at the Dunsan we were a little ahead of the official check-in time of 3:00PM by just 50 minutes, our polite and friendly receptionist told us we could check in, but it would cost us an extra KWN10,000! It wasn’t worth the extra cost so we sat in the adjacent Honey Bean coffee shop until 3:00PM.

The room was a good size and well laid out. Nice touch of having an entrance hall with a separate door. The automatic motion sensor light was a pain though as it went out way too quickly plunging you in to darkness as you tied your boot laces.

Sadly though the room wasn’t very comfortable.

One, the duvet was just clumps of feathers scattered in the diamond stitched pattern, leaving you without any real cover. The sheets we odd too, feeling damp as though the room had not been used for ages. And the bed itself was too firm and felt like sleeping on a box.

We were warned at check-in that if the shower ran cold you would need to wait at least 20 minutes for the tank to warm up again, so showering was a nervous event, washing in fear of the water turning cold and being left covered in foam for 20  minutes.

Position-wise it was good though and was within walking distance of the nearby shops/restaurants and the arboretum.

Buffet breakfast was taken in the coffee shop, with a good selection of Asian food, some cereal, coffee, rolls and toast and jam. the weekend staff were a little reserved, but the Monday morning staff were lovely and attempted to chat with us.

Both male and female receptionists on the desk were pretty useless when asked if they could recommend a restaurant. Between them they could think of nothing and just said “no, they couldn’t”. When pressed for a vegetarian restaurant, again, they just giggled and said no. No offer of a local map or any way of finding what was nearby. Mrs Y found a map herself on a nearby table that detailed everything we needed, so basically the reception team just couldn’t be arsed to leave their seats to help and didn’t even recommend the two restaurants located in the hotel!

Overall the service was rubbish and the room was barely mediocre.

PROS: Close to Metro. Good breakfast.

CONS: Awful bedding. Unhelpful desk staff.
