Day Three (Dia tres)

Something I love about being on holiday is the hotel breakfasts, this mornings spread at Las Terrazas was a delight. Cereals, fruit, yoghurts, bread, pastries, everything you’d need to fuel the day ahead.

With nothing much on our agenda we walked out in to the quiet Sunday morning cutting through the streets to pick up the path that follows the bay around the outskirts of the town. Our walk treated us to great views across the muddy River Plate, also giving us the chance to dip our toes in the fine white sandy beach, also spotting birds feeding on the shore we had not seen before.

On our journey we enjoyed seeing local artists painting a new concrete wall alongside the football stadium and also took a diversion in to a bustling street market selling all kinds of bric-à-brac and food stuffs before finally diving back in to the old town for a well earned ice cream.

After our six mile walk, a time out was called for, heading back to chill out on the sofas in the hotel with a cup of tea, a Dulce de Leche liquor and a novel.

Refreshed, it was time to eat, traversing the cobbled streets of the old town once again, finding a table at restaurant called Los Kamikazes that offered a menu with some vegetarian options, finally choosing chivito, fries and a couple of local beers. Refuelled, we wandered along the promenade again but as the day had been mostly cloudy there was no sunset to enjoy this evening.

Back to Colonia Sandwich Coffee for coffee and cake, sharing crumbs with the sparrows pestering us on the pavement, before light rain forced us to leave and head back to the hotel. On our way we could hear loud salsa music playing and discovered a 16-piece band entertaining a crowd in Plaza Mayor, before once again having to move on due to the heavier rain that disrupted their performance.
