Day Seven (Dia síete)

Thursday and we’ll be travelling pretty much all day, leaving the delightful Montevideo and heading back to Buenos Aíres. In an effort to avoid having to get up early just to travel, we booked the Colonia Express ferry crossing that came with coach travel from Montevideo leaving at a very sensible 1:00pm. Checking out of Fauna was relaxed and chatty and breakfast in Che.Co.Ffee was just as easy going. Our previous unblemished experience of UBER fell way short when we couldn’t get a cab from outside the cafe. Finally, after a cab changed its mind and picked up someone else, we had to rush through to Independencia Plaza where we had seen a lot of taxis. Our prayers were answered as one taxi was kerbside, free and available, and we were soon on our way to Tres Cruces terminal, cutting it fine for picking up what was supposed to be a relaxing trip. Tres Cruces was chaotic and a tale for another day, but we finally got onboard a coach and headed off towards Colonia del Sacramento and the ferry. Our driver made good time, shaving an hour off the Turil coach trip, but our coach didn’t stop until it reached the ferry terminal. Again, the ferry terminal was chaotic, one long line of people snaking right around the terminal to pass through security and then another line snaking around the departure lounge waiting to board the ferry. Once on board it was bedlam as people tried to find a seat, but climbing up to the upper level we found a couple of window seats and settled in for the trip across the River Plate to Buenos Aires.

Arriving in Buenos Aires, was even more chaotic than our departure as everyone had to queue to pass through a handful off immigration desks, taking an hour to get out of the terminal straight in to another melee of people trying to grab taxis from a single attendant who was quoting taxis fares double what we had paid before for cash or triple for card payments. Grade A rip off! Not a great welcome back to BA!

After dropping the cases at the Tanguero Hotel we dashed out to eat at the restaurant we had used before, taking full advantage of their 2 for 1 pasta special.

So, here we were, back in Buenos Aires for a few days to explore everything the city had to offer us.
