Daejeon Day Eight

Lazy start with breakfast in the coffee shop adjoining the hotel, luckily we beat the rush, just! Reasonable selection of food, mostly Asian, but also some cereals and toast available too, hot coffee, but no tea.

Just two things on our agenda today. Exploring the Hanbat Arboretum and finding a quirky restaurant Guibin, that served the local dish, Dolsotbap.

Daejeon was quiet. VERY quiet. It seems that the good folk of Daejeon stay at home on Sunday mornings.

Hanbat Arboretum is split 50:50 by what appears to be a cycle track that some cyclists were racing around on various machines.

We headed off in to the right half of the park, into the rose garden, which  in the summer will look amazing when in full bloom. Lots of blossom trees lined the paths and a lake surrounded by beds of viola and pansies. Giant rocks steered the path up through lots of alpine plants to a viewing platform giving you a panorama of the park and the surrounding city.

The left-hand side of the arboretum was less formal, but just as entertaining. We found a tiny library nestled in there and also a lovely sunny area to sit and enjoy the peace of the park.

Mrs Y found us an amazing place to eat after our stroll, a restaurant, Guibin, famed for its Dolsotbap, a local delicacy of 27 dishes. We found it fairly easily too, and again, without a word of English we were greeted, seated and we had ordered our meal within a couple of minutes. Service happened at breakneck speed with our table rapidly filling up with little dishes and being topped off by a large and very hot bowl of rice. Our whole meal was truly amazing each dish being added to the rice and enjoyed. Once the dishes were empty we stacked them up to free up space.
