Finding a place to stay in Lisbon was a challenge. Researching regular hotels turned up a lot of chintzy and old fashioned places which we just don’t go for. Mrs Y applied her Googling skills while I was out of the country on business, emailing me a link to Browns Apartments. It appealed to us on several levels, a nicely designed website, great location giving walking access to all the major sites, easily accessible from the airport, a coffee shop on site and a brilliant off season deal on the booking page, Rent4Days. One small hitch we didn’t envisage was returning to the airport for our 07:40 flight, the Metro service doesn’t start until 06:30. Brown’s arranged a taxi for us at a good price, but needs to be booked and paid for at reception to get the discounted price. Apparently taxis can charge what they like at that hour!
PROS: Very close to Baixa-Chiado Metro station, 5 minutes walk. Great location in centre of city. Above excellent Brown’s coffee shop. Spotlessly clean. Rooms very well appointed. Both an iMac and iPad in your room. Kitchenette in room, very handy. Our room, 203, was very large at 40sqm, but all sizes and prices are available. Old style building converted very well in to modern apartments. Very reasonably priced.
CONS: Overall, no cons to report. Some noise at night from drunks/homeless in adjacent road which Browns has no control over. We arrived after coffee bar/reception closed and despite good directions to Browns Hotel to collect our key, it was very hard to find in the dark as it is very discretely signed and lit.
